G 20 Preparations Begins ahead of 2023, Piyush Goyal tasked for grouping


New Delhi: India has started it’s preparations to host G20 meet In India in year 2023. Former Railway Minister and Current Commerce and Industry Minister, Piyush Goyal has been appointed as India’s Sherpa for the G20, a table that brings together Major Economies of Earth. He will be replacing former union minster Suresh Prabhu.

The next G20 Summit is scheduled to take place on 30 and 31st October, 2021 under Italian presidency. According to Ministry of External Affairs, India will take G20 Presidency from 31st December 2022 and India will hold G20 Summit in 2023 for the first time.

The announcement of Sherpa was done by MEA itself, MEA stated “ Mr. Piyush Goyal, Union Minister for Commerce and Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, and Textiles, has been appointed as India’s Sherpa for the G20.”

PM Modi has been representative of India since 2014 and India has been member of G20 since 1999, the year it was formed. Other members of G20 are are Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Turkey, the United Kingdom and the United States.

These members account for more than 80% of global GDP, Trades and Holds 65% of the global population.
