Geelani’s close aid masarat becomes hurriyat cHairman


New Delhi: Masarat Alam, who was responsible for the 2010 unrest in Kashmir valley and close aide of Syed Geelani, has become chairman of Hurriyat Conference after his demise. The statement on the same was issued by the party. Currently, Masarat is in jail.

Reportedly, a statement by APHC (All Party Hurriyat Conference) was mailed to media outlets is being circulated on social media. The statement stated, that the party held a meeting in Srinagar during which, the decision was taken. The statement is not verified yet.

The Statement read that “Masarat Alam Bhat is elected as the next chairman of APHC. Whereas, Shabir Ahmad Shah and Ghulam Ahmad Gulzar are elected as vice-chairmen.”

The APHC is inactive since 29th June 2020. Geelani left the space after staying on it for 17 years, citing Hurriyat failed to act against abrogation Article 370 and 35A. Alam has 27 FIR’s against him and he is currently in jail for terror funding cases by NIA. Alam was the one responsible for riots in Kashmir Valley in 2010. Shabir Shah is also in jail.

 He was released back in 2015 and then arrested again after State Government charged him for “Anti-Country activities”. He raised Pro Pakistan Slogans and Welcomed Geelani. Geelani often accused the central government of detention of Masarat Aalam in “Sedition and Terror activities”.
