Mullah Akhund to Lead Interim Taliban Government, Recognition still awaited


New Delhi:  On Tuesday, Top Taliban leaders has announced formation of Interim government. The Cabinet formed has provided top posts to those Taliban personalities who dominated in the war against the US-led coalition and its Afghan government allies. Mullah Akhund will be acting Prime Minister, Whereas Mullah Baradar will be Deputy Prime Minister. He is on UN terror list.

Mullah Hasan Akhund is the same Person who led Taliban government in the final years of its first tenure that ended after US Invasion. Abdul Ghani Baradar, head of the Taliban’s political office in Doha, was in talks with the US which resulted in US withdrawal from Afghanistan. The government formation was postponed twice as the curators were reportedly struggling to shape administration in such a way that it is accepted by international community. 

The Taliban Cabinet portfolios goes in way like, Amir Khan Muttaqi will be Foreign Minister and Mullah Yaqoob, son of Taliban’s founder Mullah Omar, will serve as the acting defence minister. Sirajuddin Haqqani, leader of the Haqqani Network will continue its network in government.

While, Recognition of the Taliban worldwide still stands in cliff-hanger.  Countries like United Kingdom and Canada have clarified that they have no immediate plans for recognising the government. While USA is saying that it will wait and watch its actions.

Spokesperson Mujahid from Taliban said, “We are not a tribal force, and we hope the world recognizes us and legitimacy of our Islamic state”.
