Environment ministry to adopt draft policy on electronic waste

The guidelines for Environmental Compensation Charges (ECC) have been made in December 2020 under e-waste rules and was submitted before the National Green Tribunal.

New Delhi: The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change will soon be coming up with a draft policy on electronic or e-waste, said sources.

The electronic waste includes refrigerators, air conditioners, television sets, headphones, compact discs, mobile phone and chargers, motherboards and discarded computer monitors.

The guidelines for Environmental Compensation Charges (ECC) have been made in December 2020 under e-waste rules and was submitted before the National Green Tribunal.

The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has issued show-cause notices to 1001 Producers for non-compliance during FY 20-21 under the e-waste rules and regulations, sources in the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.

Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) extends the producers responsibility beyond the consumer stage for storage, collection, transportation and recycling of e-waste and environmentally sound dismantling and creating awareness among the consumers by the instrument of EPR Authorisation
