Badminton coach booked for molesting teen player in Pune

According to FIR, the accused has been coaching the badminton player for some time, asking her to keep the shuttle box in the locker and follower her there.

New Delhi: A 36-year-old badminton coach was arrested by police for sexually harassing and allegedly molesting a 14-year-old teen badminton player at a sporting facility in Pune.

The incident happened on Saturday at 10 AM and the FIR of the case was lodged on Saturday evening. The complainant is the teenage player in the case.

According to FIR, the accused has been coaching the badminton player for some time, asking her to keep the shuttle box in the locker and follower her there. He then started asking her on her absence in few coaching sessions and told her she has a promising future ahead of her, the registered FIR said.

While shaking her hand, he pulled the girl towards him and touched and hugged her inappropriately, according to the FIR. As she freed herself and walked away, he tried to forcefully stop her by strongly holding her hand, the teenager stated in her complaint.

The sub-inspector investigating the case quoted, “After the incident, the girl told her mother about it. They approached us and registered an FIR, after which the coach was placed under arrest.”

The coach has been booked under Indian Penal Code section 354 (assault with intent to outrage modesty of woman), 354D (stalking), 354A (sexual harassment) and relevant sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO).
