Sidharth Nath Singh strikes opposition over ‘political tourism’ in Lakhimpur Kheri

Around eight people died in the incident happened in Lakhimpur Kheri on Sunday, UP police official said.


New Delhi: UP minister Sidharth Nath Singh slammed the opposition on Monday over the use of the Lakhimpur Kheri incident for ‘political tourism’ with Assembly polls just few months away.

“We are taking this matter seriously and it is under investigation. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has said that culprits will be punished. The opposition is using the incident for political tourism and political competitions as polls are around the corner.”

Underlining the visit of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra to Lakhimpur Kheri, he said, “The opposition wants to divert the investigation… and change the public perspective. The opposition parties should have waited for 24 hours and left the investigative agencies come out with facts and for an official statement from the agencies.”

“… according to the reports they could have approached the courts. But they are doing for photo-op. They cannot the 2022 UP elections by politicising the dead bodies,” he further stated.

The minister also said, “The official concerned has been sent to the district. Based on the investigation report, the government will take necessary action.”

Samyukta Kisan Morcha alleged that Asish Mishra Teni, son of Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Ajay Mishra Teni arrived with three vehicles at the time when farmers were scattering from their protest at the helipad and shear down the allocated farmers and also directly attacked SKM leader Tajinder Singh Birk by trying to run over a vehicle on him.

However, Ashish Mishra Teni disapproved SKM’s allegations and said that he was not there at the incident spot.

MoS Teni also refuted and said that his son was not present there, adding that some malefactor mingled with the protesting farmers and pelted stones at the vehicle, leading to the ‘unfortunate incident’.
