New Delhi: Minister of Road Transport and Highways of India Nitin Gadkari said that he had told US-based car manufacturer Tesla to not sell ‘Made in China’ electric vehicles in India on Friday. He also urged the company led by Elon Musk to establish its manufacturing unit in India and export from here. Gadkari’s statements reflect caution on China following the border tensions.

“Whatever support you (Tesla) want, will be provided by our government,” Gadkari stated in an event. Gadkari said he had talks with Tesla officials regarding the firm’s demand according to tax concessions.

The Minister on Friday also described his favour on increasing the speed limit of vehicles on expressways and national highways (NHs) to a maximum of 140 kmph. However, the Supreme Court and High Courts need to be convinced about raising the speed limit.
