New Delhi: Police stated that three terrorists of The Resistance Front (TRF) were killed in an overnight encounter with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district on Tuesday.

The security forces had commenced a search and cordon in South Kashmir, Tulran on Monday evening, after receiving specific information about the presence of militants in the area.

He stated that the search and cordon operation turned into an encounter after terrorists fired first at the security forces, retaliating instantly.

In heavy gun fighting, three militants were slain, the officials reported.

The police stated they belonged to TRF, a Pakistan-backed front of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).

“#ShopianEncounterUpdate: 03 #terrorists of LeT (TRF) killed. Identification being ascertained. #Incriminating materials including arms & ammunition recovered. Search going on. Further details shall follow,” the Kashmir Zone Police tweeted.

Vijay Kumar, Kashmir IGP reported one of the three terror militants was involved in the recent attack of a non-Muslim local street vendor Virendra Paswan.

“#ShopianEncounterUpdate: Out of 03 killed #terrorists, one terrorist has been identified as Mukhtar Shah of #Ganderbal, who shifted to #Shopian after killing one street hawker Virendra Paswan of Bihar,” the Kashmir Zone Police tweeted underlining the issue.
