Uttarakhand: Seven trekkers found dead, search underway

Search parties and rescue teams from Uttarkashi found five trekkers’ bodies, however, two of the team’s members were found dead in Himachal Pradesh.

New Delhi: Two more members of the eleven-strong trekking team which had gone missing have been found dead making the death toll to seven, search party is underway for the remaining two members, officials stated.

On Thursday, two members of the team had been rescued alive. According to the reports, the two rescued trekkers have sustained injuries and are being treated in Harsil and Uttarkashi.

They went missing on a trek from Harsil, Uttarkashi to Chitkul, Himachal Pradesh.

Search parties and rescue teams from Uttarkashi found five trekkers’ bodies, however, two of the team’s members were found dead in Himachal Pradesh, Devendra Patwal, Uttarkashi district disaster management officer stated.

Colonel Rajendra Prasad of 9 Bihar Regiment said that a search operation is underway for the two missing individuals of the team with the help of a helicopter.

The team was of eight trekking members- one from Delhi and the others from West Bengal- and three cooks that went missing recently on a trek to Chitkul
