New Delhi: Firing continues on Monday at the Bhatta Durrain forest encounter site in Mendhar, adjoining Surankote and Thanamandi in Rajouri district, J&K. The region witnessed a huge search operation.

In the ongoing operation, nine army personnel were martyred in distinct ambushes in Surankote (Poonch) and Mendhar on October 11 and 14, advancing to its 15th day on Monday.

An arrested Pakistani terrorist was encountered on Sunday while three security personnel were injured when suddenly a group of terrorists opened fire on a joint army and police search party in Poonch district forest.

A Pakistani terrorist of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) Detenue Zia Mustafa was nabbed to Bhata Durian for the terrorist hideout identification in which three army personnel and a Junior Commissioned Officer were martyred.

“During the search, when the team approached the hideout, terrorists again opened fire on the joint team of police and army personnel in which two policemen and an army jawan sustained injuries. Zia Mustafa also sustained injuries and during the subsequent operation, additional reinforcements were sent and the dead body of Zia Mustafa was retrieved from the encounter site,” the official said.
