3 Women dead at farmers protest at Tikri border

The accident happened around 5:45 AM when the women were reportedly sitting on the Jhajjar road divider waiting for a rickshaw to head towards Bahadurgarh railway station to catch the train to Mansa.

New Delhi: Three women from Mansa district, Punjab on Thursday morning were run over by a truck on Tikri-Bahadurgarh border at farmers’ protest site.

Two elderly women have been injured. One of them has been referred to PGI hospital in Rohtak.

The identity of the deceased women were Gurmeel Kaur, Chhinder Kaur and Amarjeet Kaur. The three women have been taking part in the farmers’ protest for past several days.

The accident happened around 5:45 AM when the women were reportedly sitting on the Jhajjar road divider waiting for a rickshaw to head towards Bahadurgarh railway station to catch the train to Mansa.

Two of the three women died on the spot as a speeding truck hit them, while the other was rushed to Civil Hospital in Bahadurgarh and was declared dead by the doctors.

SHO of Sector 6, Bahadurgarh, Nar Singh stated that the driver fled the incident site after the accident while eyewitnesses’ statements were being registered.

Underlining the incident, the Punjab government has given a compensation of Rs 5 lakh each to the family of the three deceased women.
