New Delhi: Senior Congress leader and the party’s chief whip in Rajya Sabha, Jairam Ramesh, is Upset with the appointment of Ex-BJP MP Tarun Vijay’s appointment as NMA head. On Wednesday, Jairam wrote to Vice President Venkaiah Naidu, objecting to his appointment under the Union Ministry of Culture.
According to media reports, Jairam in his letter cited The Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains (Amendment and Validation) Act, 2010. He cited that the law mentions that people with “different educational and professional backgrounds do not meet the requirements of the law”. And his appointment violates the act.
Jairam further added, “This is for the first time, I find that the Government of India has appointed a chairperson whose educational and professional background does not, in any way whatsoever, meet the requirements of the law as stipulated mandatorily by Parliament. How is this possible, needs to be enlightened”
BJP leader and former MP Tarun Vijay have been editor of the RSS mouthpiece Panchjanya for several years. He was appointed as the chairperson of NMA in 2019 and after 2 years. Jairam Naresh has raised the question.
