Punjab Assembly passes resolution against BSF border order

New Delhi: On 11th November, The Punjab assembly passed a resolution against the Centre’s notification that extended Border Security Force range from 15KM to 50KM, The Punjab govt. has called it an “insult” to the state police and asked the center for its withdrawal. The House unanimously passed the resolution whereas, 2 MLA’s of the BJP were absent during the motion. 
Earlier in October, The Union government had enhanced the BSF Act which authorized the border guarding force to undertake search, seizure, and arrests within a 50 km stretch, up from the existing 15 km. The Borders of Punjab, Bengal, and Assam dominantly. 

The resolution was moved by Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa.
He said, “Punjab is a land of martyrs, we have made exemplary sacrifices in our country’s freedom struggle”. This law is not accepted. 
“Punjab police is a unique patriotic force which has contributed in maintaining the unity and integrity of the country with full devotion. As per the Constitution of India, maintaining law and order is the responsibility of the state government and for this purpose.” 
He added the new law is an insult to the land of Martyrs.
