Stalin seeks Re-designation of Chennai as Haj Embarkment point

New Delhi: Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, MK Stalin has requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to re-designate Chennai as the boarding point for the Haj pilgrimage. The Designation was removed and moved to Kochi earlier. Stalin made this request via a letter after the Haj Committee of India, declared Kochi as a boarding point for the Haj pilgrimage 2021, instead of Chennai.
According to MK Stalin, the chief minister said devotees will be suffering as the embarkation point has been changed to the Kochi airport. He mentioned that more than 4,300 Haj devotees from Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry, and Andaman and Nicobar islands traveled from Chennai to Jeddah in 2019. Kochi will be far for them. 

Stalin further added that the CMO received a large number of petitions and requests from Muslim individuals and Political Parties. 
Stalin also thanked frontline workers and officials for their tireless work during the Chennai Rains. In A tweet he thanked, Police, medical personnel, TANGEDCO staff, and manual scavengers, working hard to bring normalcy to the city. He asked the citizens to be calm and asked them to stay alert during rain.
