Former State BJP Minister Anil Bonde arrested in Amravati Violence

The police have arrested former Maharashtra minister and BJP leader Dr. Anil Bonde along with a few other party workers in connection with the violence over the weekend. The police have issued a lookout notice for BJP leader Praveen Pote.

The Amravati police have made the first major arrest in Amravati Violence. The police have arrested former Maharashtra minister and BJP leader Dr. Anil Bonde along with a few other party workers in connection with the violence over the weekend. The police have issued a lookout notice for BJP leader Praveen Pote, who has been missing from Amravati.

As per media reports, Around 6,000 workers and followers of allied organizations like Bajrang Dal rushed streets to execute the bandh on Saturday. It led to two shops belonging to the minority communities being fired right away. At present, a total of 72 arrests have been made in 26 FIRs registered at four police stations in Amravati with connection to the violence.

The police suspect the march was carried out in revenge of March taken out by Muslim groups a day before in Amravati to protest in solidarity with anti-minority violence in Tripura. During this protest, there was a stone thrown at the residence of Pote in which a window was shattered and a person sustained injuries. After which, the police suspect the violence turned into fire.
