PM Modi pays tribute to Birsa Munda on Janjatiya Gaurav Divas

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid his tributes to the legendary freedom fighter of India Birsa Munda on November 15.

Underlining the occasion, Modi also greeted Jharkhand residents, the state which was formed on the birth anniversary of Munda in 2000. Jharkhand has its own distinctive culture and historical identity, PM wished for the advancing development journey of the state.

Modi cited in a tweet that the struggle of the freedom fighter has been to protect the rights of tribes and their people and to fight for the country’s independence. The PM also said that his contribution will always be memorable.

The Centre government has announced that Birsa Munda’s birth anniversary will be marked as Janjatiya Gaurav Divas. Born in 1875 in the undivided tribal belt of Bihar, he marched with tribe members against the British colonial rule and he died in Ranchi jail in 1900.
