New Delhi: Two Delhi based women journalists were detained for publishing hoax news impacting and disrupting communal harmony, the two have been granted bail by the court in Gomati district, Tripura.

On Sunday, Tripura police detained both of them registering an FIR against them on charges of disrupting communal tensions.

The identity of the journalist was Swarna Jha and Sammriddhi K Sakunia, were given notice to record their statements. They came to Tripura on Thursday to cover communal tensions.

They visited the Gomati district upon arrival, followed by bordering minority-dominated localities of Sepahijala and West Tripura districts.

A senior police official stated on Sunday that the two journalists posted a mosque being burnt in Gomati district on social media and a damaged copy of the Quran.

The police suspected that the video posted by them are being monitored.

Tripura police issued a press release claiming the post of Sakunia was a hoax and were trying to promote a sense of hatred between communities.
