Russia starts delivering S400 Missile System ahead of Putin's Visit


New Delhi: Russia has officially started delivery of S-400 surface-to-air missile systems to India, confirmed by a senior Russian official Dmitry Shugaev.
Russian Director of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation (FSMTC) Dmitry Shugaev interviewed with State Affiliated Media, Sputnik news that the deliveries are going as planned and will continue till the last batch is delivered.
In October 2018, India signed a deal with Russia to buy five units of the S-400 air defence missile systems. The deal will cost around 5 billion USD to India. At that time, The Trump administration warned India that that going ahead with the contract may invite US sanctions to the nation.
India made the first instalment of around USD 800 million to Russia for the missile systems in 2019.
The S-400 is known as Russia’s most advanced long-range surface-to-air missile defence system. Whereas, The Delivery has started ahead of Russian President, Vladimir Putin’s visit to India. 
Turkey has been the victim of such sanctions over the procurement of S-400 missile systems from Russia, there are strong chances that the White House may impose similar sanctions on India. However, the Biden Administration has not shown any interest in the deal yet.
