New Delhi: As the debate over Hinduism and Hindutva continues by congress after Salman Khurshid’s book statement. The party’s Lok Sabha MP and former Union minister Manish Tewari said that the Congress Party should, discuss initiatives to strengthen the (party’s) core ideology and values. rather than bashing other ideologies.”

In a series of tweets, Manish Tewari expressed his concerns with the party and said, “I am confused by the “Hinduism qua Hindutva” debate in the party. When the party is deviated from the Nehruvian idea of secularism, as interpreted as a separation of church and state, and moved towards Sarv Dharam Sambhav. It has started down a slippery slope and has not stopped skidding since,” According to him, a larger debate on the topic is required.

According to Tewari, The ‘Hinduism versus Hindutva’ was an academic debate, and “when you try and make this distinction for political purposes other than an academic purpose, you end up in turf”
“There should be a debate, a debate in the party about how should be on how to strengthen the core ideology and core values of the Congress party. If the INC gives up its founding values, it must never forget that people never prefer the original party’s value” he said.
