RedAlert, heavy to very heavy rainfall predicted in Tamil Nadu

New Delhi: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted red alert on Thursday in the coastal area of Tamil Nadu, which is likely to receive extremely heavy and incessant rains. Heavy to very heavy rainfall has also been forecasted in the southern coastal region of Andhra Pradesh and other adjoining regions of north Tamil Nadu during the coming 24 hours.

“Intense rainfall has begun over coastal Tamil Nadu since the early hours of today,” IMD cited in a tweet.

The Low-Pressure Area (LPA) over Southeast and Southwest Bay has been marked off north Tamil Nadu-south Andhra Pradesh coasts, IMD said.

“It is very likely to intensify into a Depression during the next 12 hours,” IMD stated.

The Weather department also predicted that Strong winds are likely to prevail over Southwest and adjoin West-central Bay of Bengal and alongside the Tamil Nadu-Puducherry –south Andhra Pradesh coasts.

“As Rough to very Rough Sea conditions are also very likely to prevail over Southwest and adjoining West Central Bay of Bengal and along and off Tamil Nadu-Puducherry-south Andhra Pradesh coasts, Fishermen are advised not to venture into these areas till 19th November morning,” IMD stated in a statement.
