New Delhi: Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has arrived in Leh to inaugurate a revamped War memorial in Ladakh’s Rezang La, in honour of those soldiers who died in the June 2020 Galwan Valley clash with the Chinese PLA. Their names have been mentioned in the memorial.
According to various media reports, Defence Minister is likely to have a meeting with officials of the armed forces at Leh to take stock of the border situation. This visit is significant as China recently appeared to have toughened its stance on border negotiations. The last Commander level meeting between the two sides saw no progress regarding the disengagement of troops.

The first war memorial was raised in Chushul in Ladakh in memory of soldiers who died in the battle of Rezang La during the 1962 war. In that war, a company of 13 Kumaon battalion fought to the last man to block PLA from crossing the bridge into Chushul Valley.

Last year, A similar clash happened in Pangong valley with the Bihar regiment fighting fearlessly with the PLA soldiers.
