New Delhi: Two doctors of Chennai government hospital were detained on Thursday for raping a colleague in the allotted quarantine city hotel after Covid19 duty. The doctors, aged 28 and 35, committed the offense amid lockdown in August.
“They barged into their colleague’s room in the hotel and sexually assaulted her. They were all staying there as part of isolation protocols amid their Covid-19 duty. The incident happened in August. The victim was alone in her room when she was attacked during the night. After the incident, the victim, who had gone through a traumatic stage, had to go on leave for almost two months before joining duty last month,” an officer stated.
After a complaint filed by the victim on Wednesday, Chennai police registered an FIR against both the doctors and further arrested them, sending them to judicial custody on Thursday.
As per the proof, CCTV footage of the hotel was observed which clarified the victim’s allegations.
“After she shared the incident with people at home, it was her parents who asked her to file a formal complaint and facilitated counselling sessions,” stated the senior officer who was investigating the case.
