New Delhi: Normal lifestyle was highly affected in Kashmir region on Friday to a strike to express solidarity with families of individuals who were killed in the Hyderpora encounter, officials stated. Most of the business establishments, shops and petrol pumps were shut in Srinagar.

Public transport was also off the roads during the strike, however, private vehicles and auto-rickshaws were seen in a few areas of the city, officials added.

From other areas of the Valley, similar reports of strikes were reported.

The effect of the strike was spotlighted by the public holiday on the occasion of Gurupurab.

The bodies of the two civilians- Dr. Mudasir Gull and Altaf Ahmad Bhat- killed in the Hyderpora encounter on Monday were exhumed at Handwara and further, the bodies were handed over to their families. After their last rites performed by their family members, they were buried there.
