New Delhi: The central government has deployed a multi-ministerial team to access and calculate the damages caused due to the recent floods triggered by heavy rains in Tamil Nadu. The team will visit Chennai, Chengalpet, Kancheepuram, and Kanyakumari districts as well as Puducherry on Monday. The teams arrived last night in Chennai.
As per media reports, there will be Two groups comprising of seven members each. These teams will carry out spot assessments and determine the damages caused to crops and property. One team will be led by Rajiv Sharma, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs. While, the other one will be led by RB Kaul, Consultant, Ministry of Finance.
The state government led by MK Stalin has submitted a memorandum to Union Home Minister Amit Shah seeking Rs 2,6K crore for relief work. after which, the center decided to deploy teams to assess actual damage caused.
These teams will continue their assessment for 2 days. As per the schedule, both teams will arrive in Chennai for a debriefing session at the secretariat before leaving for New Delhi on Wednesday evening.
