New Delhi: The Prime Minister Office has asserted that India needs to be proactive in light of the ‘Omicron Variant’ which was detected in South Africa. However, The PM has directed officials to review plans for easing international travel restrictions in light of the emerging new evidence. Indicating government seeks to return to normalcy in the aviation sector.

PM Modi chaired a high-level meet for review “COVID19 situation and vaccination drive” in the Country. The International Flight resumption was also discussed. The PMO highlighted the need for monitoring all international arrivals, their testing as per guidelines, and specifically focus on countries identified as ‘at risk’.

As per the statement by PMO, “The PM also asked officials to review plans for easing international travel restrictions in light of the emerging new evidence,”

The Officials were also directed to continue doing genome sequencing of international travelers if they come out positive. The individual will be quarantined immediately.  

PM Modi has also asked the health ministry officials to work in coordination with state governments to ensure that there is proper awareness at the state and district level about the variant and if any district or state suffers. Measures will be taken immediately.
