Jack Dorsey resigns from twitter, names Parag Agarwal as next CEO

Parag Agrawal was involved with research in large-scale data management at Microsoft Research, Yahoo! Research, and AT&T Labs. Agrawal holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Stanford University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science and Engineering from IIT-Bombay, 2005 batch.

New Delhi: Twitter’s founder and former CEO, Jack Dorsey yesterday announced that he is stepping down as CEO of the Social Media firm, and Parag Agrawal, an alumnus of IIT-Bombay, and the CTO of Twitter will be the next CEO of the company. Agrawal has been with Twitter since 2011 and was serving as Chief Technology Officer (CTO) since October 2017.

Before formally joining Twitter, Agrawal was involved with research in large-scale data management at Microsoft Research, Yahoo! Research, and AT&T Labs. Agrawal holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Stanford University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science and Engineering from IIT-Bombay, 2005 batch.

The appointment of Agrawal matches with the firm’s goals to have 315 million monetizable daily active users by the end of 2023 and to at least double its annual revenue by then. Experts claim that Dorsey Stepped down to cool down the heat the platform was receiving in recent times.

Talking of India, Twitter has been involved in different controversies across key markets. The latest was when Delhi Police raided twitter India offices after a heated clash of Ministers and Twitter. Many accounts were disabled and un-verified by Twitter after their discernment over new IT Laws in February 2021.
