New Delhi: On 1st December, Former Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa who criticized the center on the Farm Laws in the past few months, formally joined the Bharatiya Janata Party. This is a big event ahead of the 2022 assembly elections in Punjab.
Yesterday, Sirsa met Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP president J P Nadda in the party office, and later officially joined the party in the presence of Union ministers Dharmendra Pradhan and Gajendra Singh Shekhawat.
Sirsa was a major vocal critic of the BJP since the farm protests began. After joining, he said, “Several issues are affecting Sikhs across the country. I spoke to Amit Shah Ji about several of these issues and I was pleased he made me speak to Prime Minister Modi Ji. He said they want to solve these issues.”
The Protesters are surprised by Sirsa joining the BJP and has called him a traitor and alleged he(Sirsa) wanted political gains only.
Manjinder Singh Sirsa is also a former Rajouri Garden MLA. He quit as president of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee earlier before joining. The DSGMC was among the outfits that supported the farm blockades at 3 borders of Delhi and organized langar at the protest sites on the Capital’s borders.
