New Delhi: A video of an official in New York’s Indian consulate has gone viral on social media after the official is seen screaming at the visa applicant. The Consul General has promised a probe, although the video is being surfaced in social media with people coming up with their visa trouble experiences.

According to the reports, the incident happened on November 24, when an Indian-origin woman went for her visa processing. In the viral video, she has been seen saying that her father has passed away the day before, reacting to it the official yelled and returned the application and stated, ‘take your money’. It is also seen that the official pointed his finger and screamed, “just keep your money and go out.” The official refused to answer on being asked whether any paperwork was missing. The video was recorded by the phone of the woman’s companion.

“We have taken note of the complaint. The Consulate maintains the highest standards of public service. This particular incident does not reflect either its norms or its guideline of public functioning. The Consul General has personally reviewed the matter. based on the information presented, it has been decided to institute disciplinary proceedings against the officer,” the consulate stated.

The consulate further told that the respective visas were issued to those applicants.

“Visas were issued to the applicants expeditiously. Full facts in the case, including the conduct of all parties involved, are being reviewed by the Consul General. We remain committed to efficient and courteous consular services at all times, as we have been delivering these through the unprecedented challenges posed by the Covid-19,” it stated.
