Qualcomm enters into ARM Windows PC market, launches 2 new chips


New Delhi: Qualcomm has revealed 2 new chipsets and announced its entry into Windows (PC) market. These chips were revealed at Snapdragon Tech Summit in Hawaii. The first reveal was of flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 for premium smartphones and later 2 new Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 and the Snapdragon 7c+ Gen 3 were revealed. The chip aims at Windows-on-ARM laptops.

A new device of this chipset under Windows 11 as an OS is coming in early 2022 by Qualcomm itself. The high-end chip is based on the 5nm process. Qualcomm has not revealed further details on the same, so at the moment there is very low knowledge about CPU cores are underneath the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3.
Qualcomm has improved from its 7nm process. The new chip will also offer a massive 85 percent multi-core performance boost as well as a 60 percent boost in GPU performance.

Whereas, Snapdragon 7cx Gen 3 will be an affordable offering based on the 6nm process and offers significantly more performance than the 7c Gen 2, which was built on the 8nm process.
The affordable chipsets will also support 5G connectivity, with an X53 5G modem that can deliver downlink speeds of up to 3.7 Gbps. There is also support for WiFi 6E.
