A teenager falls to death while taking a selfie: Mumbai

Children used to frequently play in the building that was recently demolished by the Bhiwandi Nizampura Municipal Corporation last year.

A 14-year-old died while taking a selfie from the edge of a partially damaged building in Mumbai’s Bhiwandi area on Monday.

The body of the teenager boy identified as Mohammad Ubaid Shaikh, he lost balance while taking a picture and fell down from the second floor.

A police officer said that Shaikh was out with his friends to play in the evening when the incident took place. The local residents saw the body of the boy and rushed him to a nearby hospital where the doctors informed that the boy has passed away.

Children used to frequently play in the building that was recently demolished by the Bhiwandi Nizampura Municipal Corporation last year. Bhiwandi has had a problem of illegal buildings growing in the area that had led to a demolishing drive often.

However, since the building did not have a security guard or a gate to stop the children from entering, so they often used to come to play. The local police filed an accidental death report in the matter and handed over the body to the family. An official said that they do not suspect any foul play in the matter.
