New Delhi: The Indian Air Force has confirmed, Chief of Defence Staff Bipin Rawat, his wife, and 11 died after an IAF chopper they were traveling in crashed near Kannur, Tamil Nadu at around 1 PM
The official IAF account tweeted, “With deep regret, it has now been ascertained that General Bipin Rawat, Mrs. Madhulika Rawat, and 11 other persons on board have died in the unfortunate accident,”
The crash happened at a distance of about 10 km before the helipad where it was to land. Rajnath Singh Immediately rushed to PMO after the crash. The government is likely to state the tragic loss tomorrow in the parliament.

Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is about to brief the incident in parliament today and Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhary has arrived at the site where the Helicopter crashed.

The Black Box Is Recovered and sent for further investigation of the crashed Mi 17 v5 in which CDS Bipin Rawat was traveling.

Rajnath Singh has ordered an Inquiry and briefed about the Incident Lok Sabha. He will also brief Rajya Sabha in some moments.

Dalai Lama has condemned the Accident. He said, “I pray for the general and his companions and offer my heartfelt condolences to the members of the families of all those who perished in this unfortunate accident,”

Vehicles carrying mortal remains of CDS Bipin Rawat and 12 others have left from Madras Regimental Centre in Nilgiris district From Sulur airbase, the mortal remains will be taken to Delhi by air.

PM Modi after the confirmation tweeted, “deeply anguished by the helicopter crash in Tamil Nadu in which General Bipin Rawat, his wife, and 11 other personnel of the Armed Forces were killed. “They served India with utmost diligence. My thoughts are with the bereaved families,”

In a series of tweets, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that General Bipin Rawat tweeted and labeled late Rawat as an outstanding soldier and a true patriot.
“He greatly contributed to modernizing our armed forces and security apparatus. His insights and perspectives on strategic matters were exceptional. His passing away has saddened me deeply. as India’s first CDS, General Rawat worked on diverse aspects relating to armed forces including defense reforms. “He brought with him a rich experience of serving in the Army. India will never forget his exceptional service,”

Rajnath Singh Tweeted, My heart goes out to the families of those who lost their loved ones in this accident. Praying for the speedy recovery of Gp Capt. Varun Singh, who is currently under treatment at the Military Hospital, Wellington,”
Union HMO Amit Shah also expressed grief and tweeted, “I also express my deepest condolences on the sad demise of Mrs. Madhulika Rawat and 11 other Armed Forces personnel. My thoughts are with the bereaved families. May God give them the strength to bear this tragic loss. Praying for the speedy recovery of Gp Capt Varun Singh.”

GP Capt Varun Singh is currently in treatment and is probably a lone survivor of the accident.

Bhutan PM has also reacted to the Kannur Incident. he tweeted, “Heart aching to learn of helicopter crash in India, claiming 13 precious lives, including the CDS Gen. Bipin Rawat and wife. People of Bhutan and I offer prayers for India and the bereaved families,” the PM’s official handle said in a tweet.

Various Opposition leaders and Indian Personalities have started to pay tributes to the Brave Soul.
