Centre warns Drop-in Mask Use leading to India in Danger Zone

New Delhi: As the European nation continues reporting a new surge in Covid-19 cases and Omicron emerging as a ‘variant of concern’, The Centre has warned that India has “entered the danger zone” with mask usage in the country dropping to levels below the pre-second wave and it is an ominous sign.

While briefing the media. Govt. said, around 25 cases of Omicron have been detected so far in the country. According to available data on clinical symptoms, nine cases have been symptomatic and 14 asymptomatic. These 9 persons do not have foreign travel history.

The other 14 persons detected with Omicron in India were fully vaccinated, indicating breakthrough infections is being caused by the new variant. 8 have Covishield aka Astrazeneca, 5 had Pfizer and 1 had Sinovac. No death has been recorded as of now and 15 of them recovered.

However, India is currently reporting a decline in cases. VK Paul flagged the emergence of 70 clusters of Covid-19 cases. He said, “We should keep in mind that the country is witnessing a cluster of cases. Approximately, we have seen 70 such clusters emerging. it is still caused due to the Delta variant. This is why both doses of vaccination are very important. There is no need to panic, but we need to be vigilant.”

The Panel asserted that need of Booster dose is being examined and time will tell the final decision. Whereas, The data of Omicron is also being is examined that whether is it fatal or not.
