New Delhi: China has considered ‘Democracy as a weapon’ and accused the US of using democracy as a “weapon of mass destruction” to “stoke divisions and confrontation”. China slammed Democracy Summit by Joe Biden, which Beijing portrayed as a new front being formed by America to halt China’s rise.

The summit called by Joe Biden was a two-day summit. And was attended by over 100 world leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Summit ended with a call to evaluate progress in safeguarding fair elections, protecting human rights, and fighting corruption in their respective regions.

The Chinese foreign ministry was keeping a close eye on the Summit issued a lengthy statement accusing the US of stoking divisions in the name of democracy. The statement said, “the US has been imposing its political system and values on others, pushing for the so-called “democratic reforms”, abusing unilateral sanctions and inciting “color revolutions”, which have caused “disastrous consequences across the world.”

Pakistan was called to the summit. The nation skipped it, probably after a late-night phone call from Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi to his Pakistani counterpart Shah Mehmood Qureshi on December 4. Pakistan called it a ‘hegemony’ imposition.

China Asserted that the US is “not a shareholder of democracy”, the foreign ministry statement stressed that the one-party system headed by the ruling Communist Party of China (CPC) in China is actual People’s Democracy which focuses on social and economic development of the nation.
