PUBG PC to be ‘Free to Play’ from 2022

PUBG has announced that PUBG: Battlegrounds is going to be a free-to-play game from January 12, 2022, following the footsteps of its mobile version.

New Delhi: Krafton Inc., The Parent company of PUBG has announced that PUBG: Battlegrounds is going to be a free-to-play game from January 12, 2022, following the footsteps of its mobile version and going free for all players.

Even if the game will be a free-to-play title, Players will still have to pay for some locked-in-game elements. These items will be available by purchasing a one-time $12.99 fee for an “account upgrade.” Whereas, Royal pass, etc. charges will be extra.

PUBG was originally launched in 2017, as a paid battle royale multiplayer game on Steam as an exclusive game. The game was simply called PUBG (PlayerUnknown’s BattleGrounds) back then and users and their friends would have to purchase the game to play solo or together. The game became popular in countries and lead to the release of a Mobile version.

The free-to-play version of PUBG is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC via Steam, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. however, cross-platforming like Fortnite is not planned as of now. Players who have already purchased and played PUBG before its transition to free-to-play will get a special pack that includes Battlegrounds Plus account upgrade and special cosmetic items for a time period.
