Delhi reported its second case of the Omicron variant of Coronavirus on Saturday. Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jail confirmed the first case of the new, more transmissible strain of the virus, last Sunday.
Sample taken for Genome sequencing from a traveller, who had arrived in Delhi from Zimbabwe this week, had the Omicron variant.
According to patient’s travel history, he travelled to South Africa recently.
The patient is admitted to the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital (LNJP) in the National Capital, a separate ward has been set up for him.
27 foreign travellers, who has been already admitted to LNJP hospital, their genome sequencing has been done, 25 out of 27 samples were found negative, 2 patients test samples had Omicron variant.
With this, the total number of Omicron cases in India has risen to 33.
There were 32 cases of Omicron in the country after seven new infections of the highly mutated variant of the coronavirus were detected in Maharashtra and two more in Gujarat, on Friday.
