New Delhi: The BCCI press advisory has mentioned Rohit Sharma’s left hamstring injury leading to his subsequent withdrawal from the upcoming three-Test tour of South Africa. Last Week, Rohit Sharma had replaced Ajinkya Rahane as Virat Kohli’s deputy in Tests. With the former now ruled out, the position has fallen vacant for an overseas tour.

The BCCI released a press note last evening. The statement said, “Team India Test vice-captain Rohit Sharma sustained a left hamstring injury during his training session here in Mumbai yesterday. He has been ruled out of the upcoming 3-match Test series against South Africa. As of now, Priyank Panchal will replace Rohit Sharma in the Test squad.”
Sharma’s scan report has not been published yet. So, it’s not clear whether Rohit will be fit for the three ODIs that would follow the Test series. As of now, Ajinkya Rahane is the preferred choice for the captaincy.

India’s first Test in South Africa starts on 26th December, whereas the first ODI is on 19th January.
