New Delhi: As Omicron cases are rising in the nation, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) called out to the public to avoid unnecessary travel and mass gathering, and to participate in fewer festival activities. “Local restrictive measures” are to be executed in 24 districts from seven different states, including eight in Manipur and nine in Kerala, with a 5 percent of weekly positive rate.

The Centre government also informed that the spread of the new Omicron variant will be outpacing the previous Delta variant. The statement was passed down as the Omicron tally went over 100 cases on Friday, the tally was recorded to be the highest single-day rise by 24 new cases that affected 11 UTs and states across India.

India registered fresh 7,145 COVID19 cases with 289 deaths in 24 hours. The active cases in the country stand at 84,565, recorded lowest in past 18 months.
